The Far Pavilions
Colonial India was the romantic setting for the doomed love between an Englishman born in the Himalayas and an Indian princess destined to be another man's wife. Taken in by the young girl's father as a child, the Briton learned to behave like a native citizen of a palace in the vast territory dominated by the British Crown.
